The EPK Video – The Fastest Pitch

The term EPK is an acronym for “electronic press kit”. The term is used across various industries and with various mediums such as websites, emails, videos, or anything that was essentially targeted for the press in an electronic format. The EPK Video for artists/bands can be as simple as an interview cross cut with a live performance for a total of 5 minutes, or as elaborate as a full-length film with recording sessions, life on the road, interviews, and any other activities the artist/band could think of.

An EPK serves as a substitute to traditional press kits. Generally speaking, a traditional artist/band press kit consists of a three song demo, essay written biography, and an 8 x 10 photograph. An EPK Video combines all of these assets into one presentation. Now most labels, managers, promoters, etc. prefer these EPKs over traditional press kits to save themselves for piles of papers on their desk. Now they have a clean CD collection or list of websites in their inbox.

This makes for a much faster delivery in that the targeted individual does not have to read through everything… rather, they can lay back on their couch and enjoy the movie as they learn everything they would have with the traditional press kit. What’s best of all, it saves the artist/band money from having to print/press hundreds or even thousands of bios, photos, cds, etc. especially when delivered as an online website.
