It appears that I have an ear infection. The pain is unbearable… I never take pain killers but tonight I popped a double dose. This is just what I need the night before my show
As they say though, you’re not a rockstar unless you can “giverhard” despite the circumstances. I just hope that my sore throat and clogged ear don’t make me sing completely out of key or overly harsh. After all, I’m only going to get one shot to blow these people away.
When I arrived at Valence I called the “promoter” who promised to book me into “his” venue on Friday… apparently it wasn’t his venue, nor was the date confirmed. Long story short, he “made it up” to me by driving me around the city from venue to venue in hopes to booking another club.
When we finaly found a venue that wasn’t booked out, he did nothing more than give them my cd and his phone number. I basically played the role of “silent artist” while being represented by a “booking agent”. I wasn’t impressed with his approach and had a gut feeling it wasn’t going to happen.
The day after I called this promoter who let me down to see if the venue called him back… sure enough, no word. The promoter told me not to worry about it, but I had no confidance in what he had to say. So today, by myself, I went into that very venue that had an open slot this Saturday night…. as expected the owner never listened to my disc and completely forgot about our little visit.
That being said, I insisted he listened to my disc on the spot, that he check my live videos (brought my laptop with me) and bang… it went from “give me your number, i’ll call you back…” to “wow, here’s my number, what do you charge?”.
Live and learn I guess… if you want something, TAKE IT! Ah, before I forget, here’s a live clip of my performance in Bordeaux opening for Lawrence Collins.
