Princeton is a clever Californian quartet with a sugary, Brit-pop sensibility. Their breezy melodies and smart sampling are undeniably captivating. Princeton’s debut album, Cocoon of Love is catchy and charismatic. Their songs offer a winning balance as they wash over lyrics of contempt and frustration with whimsical orchestrations and soft dance beats. Princeton invites us to drown our sorrows in a soothing sea of hazy melodies.
Princeton demonstrate their child-like charm in their SXSW YouTube Channel video, “Martina and Clive Krantz”. Their music is fluid and magical. They drop samples over traditional instrumentation and add hints of Afro-Caribbean percussion and doo-wop harmonies in a perfect balance. Twin brothers Jesse and Matt Kive have been playing music with childhood friend Ben Usen since the 1990′s, but got serious in 2008 when David Kitz joined the band and they released Bloomsburg, a four-song concept EP about a group of British intellectuals.
Princeton is quickly gaining recognition for their sweet, dream-pop production. They recently toured with Vampire Weekend and Au Revoir Simone. SXSW is happy to have Princeton perform at this year’s music festival. They will be playing at the Karine Showcase at Wave Rooftop on Wednesday, March 17th at 8 pm, register today and we’ll see you there!
