Getting Started

Step 1 – How to login to your epk/website

To login to your website go to http://epkhosting.com/login

If you don’t know your password you can request a password reset below the login fields. If you fail to login 3 times in a row you’ll be locked out of the system for 5 minutes.

If you are still having issues accessing your account, please send an email to support@epkhosting.com

Step 2 – How to configure settings

General settings is where you set a name and tagline for your website as well as an administrator’s email among other things. The most important ones are the first three to make sure you enter a site title, tagline and administrator’s email address.

Left Admin sidebar > Settings > General

Writing settings is where you can set some of the defaults to your new blog posts such as the default category or post type.

Left Admin sidebar > Settings > Writing

Reading settings is where you decide on whether or not you want your blog to be your front page. If the answer is no then you’ll want to set the front page to a page called home, if you don’t have one yet you need to create it first.

Left Admin sidebar > Settings > Reading

Media settings is where you set the default dimensions of your image uploads such as the size of your post thumbnails as well as a media and large sized image dimension. Sometimes these settings are changed when you switch themes.

Left Admin sidebar > Settings > Media

Step 3 – How to import/export content

If you are looking to import your content from another site please make a selection from our supported platforms. If you need assistance migrating from a platform that is not listed please contact us and we’ll see if there is plugin that can help.

Left Admin sidebar > Tools > Import

If you are looking to export your content to move to another WordPress platform, we recommend exporting each post type separately as well as all post types in one. This is done just in case your all in one export is too large to upload to the new server. If you split up the exports you will at least be able to get it all uploaded piece by piece.

Left Admin sidebar > Tools > Export

Step 4 – How to manage users

This is where you can change your password and your display name among other things. To create an avatar we recommend http://gravatar.com

Left Admin sidebar > Users > Your Profile

Sharing logins is not recommended so if another band member wants access to the website give them their own login.

Left Admin sidebar > Users > Add New

Step 5 – How to use plugins

Left Admin sidebar > Plugins

Some plugins will already be enabled for you as the standard set that we recommend when getting started. To review the options available to you click on plugins in the left admin sidebar and use the sort buttons up top called “All”, “Active” and “Inactive”

Active plugins are the ones that are currently running on your website while inactive plugins are the ones that have not been turned on yet. Note that each plugin has a link called “Visit plugin site” where you can often find tutorials and step by step instructions. If the plugin you want is not listed please contact support@epkhosting.com to see if we can install it for you.

Step 6 – How to use themes

Left Admin Sidebar > Appearance > Themes

Are you the whiz kid in the band? You’ll love Pagelines which allows you to build something from scratch. If you’re looking for a quick fix we’ve got that too. Activate Soundstage, Slipmat or another one of our made for music wordpress themes.

To find tutorials for each theme checkout the tutorials on our website or search places like vimeo and youtube for WordPress “THEME NAME” Tutorial and you’d be surprised at how much you can find. As always, if you ever get stuck, don’t hesitate to ask for help by emailing support@epkhosting.com
